The course is named after the "pinhal," which is the Portuguese word for pine forest, and a prominent feature of the landscape. It was the second course to be opened in Vilamoura in 1976. The clubhouse, refurbished in 2000, offers stunning vistas over the practise areas.

Another course central to Vilamoura and forming part of the Dom Pedro Collection is Pinhal. The course is within walking distance to the Marina and set in lush vegetation, surrounded by towering pine trees, and providing an air of freshness with every step.
When playing the course you need to prepare your strategy early as you will be presented with many challenges. There is no let up from the start of this course, which opens with a lengthy Par 5, followed by a tough dog-leg right for the second and where the green is obstructed by a tall pine tree. Negotiate the first few holes with a somewhat reasonable score and the remainder of the course can be truly enjoyed.
The most interesting and photographed hole on the course is undoubtedly the Par 3 8th, a 147 meter mid iron shot played over a pond to a tiered green which is heavily protected by three bunkers to the right and a large bunker front left.
Green fees vary depending on the season and tee time, but generally fall within the mid-range for prestige courses in the Algarve. As it forms part of the Dom Pedro collection prices and rates can differ when you take up their hotel offerings, however there are other rates available for off peak and twilight hours.
